In the food service industry, we rely on our hands -- from prep to dishwashing to service to cleaning, and everything in between, it's our responsibility to take care of them to keep our food and customers safe.
- Proper Handwashing -- make sure you've got a fully stocked handwashing sink, and ensure all employees are trained on how to handwash correctly
- Is there a wound on someone's hand? Make sure there's an impermeable cover AND a glove over it. Wounds contain pathogens that can easily make our customers sick.
- Keep your fingernails short and clean! Real fingernails are a physical contaminant
- Fake nails and nail polish may be allowed when a glove is worn, but this depends on your local regulatory authority -- make sure you check! These are also physical contaminants and we have to be careful.
Summertime often coincides with new employees joining the team, or those with summer jobs coming back. A quick review of proper hand care takes only a few minutes but the benefits last far longer!
