Let's go over the program differences so that you can decide what training is right for your establishment.

The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is required in 30 states (see map from ServSafe below). In 11 states, the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is required by county. In 9 states, only a demonstration of food safety knowledge is required. These states could either utilize the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification program or the ServSafe Food Handler program.

The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is a comprehensive food safety course that covers the 7th edition of the ServSafe Manager book. Once the course is completed, the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam begins. Students can opt to take either the written exam or the online exam. Written exam results take 10-12 days to process while online exam results are available as soon as the online exam session has finished. The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification is ideal for managers, chefs, and other supervisory team members.

The ServSafe Food Hander is a basic food safety course that covers the 6th edition of the ServSafe Food Handler Guide. Once the course is finished, students receive a certification of completion.
